What is two-factor authentication (2FA)?

2FA is an extra layer of security you can activate on your account. It’s an additional layer of security on top of your login credentials (your username and password).

When 2FA is enabled, you’ll need to have access to your mobile device in order to login. This device is what’s called your “second factor” to login on top of your login credentials. If you would like to activate 2FA you can choose either Google 2FA or Coinsquare 2FA.

Coinsquare 2FA requires you to scan the QR code on the desktop site using the official Coinsquare mobile app in order to login. You can scan it from the settings page on the app.

Google 2FA requires you to enter the active 6 digit code or “token”. This number updates every 30 seconds on your mobile app.

How do I activate Coinsquare 2FA?

  1. Download the Coinsquare App onto your iOS or Android mobile device
  2. Login to your Coinsquare account on your mobile device and on desktop
  3. Starting from the desktop site, visit your Account Settings page
  4. Scroll down to Two Factor Authentication and select Coinsquare 2FA
  5. Click on Generate Key
  6. Open the mobile app and navigate to the Settings tab
  7. Select Two-factor authentication and scan the QR Code

How do I activate Google 2FA?

  • Download the Google Authenticator App onto your iOS or Android mobile device
  • Login to your Coinsquare account on desktop and visit your Account Settings page
  • Scroll down to Two Factor Authentication and select Google 2FA
  • Click on Generate Key
  • Open the Google Authenticator App and select Scan a barcode
  • Scan the QR code on the desktop site with the app
  • Enter the active 6 digit code on the app (these are active for 30 seconds)
  • Click Activate Code
  • The status on the website should now show Enabled

What if I lose my 2FA device?

Reach out to our support team by submitting a request here then please select Category: Account Management and request a 2FA reset.

to maintain account security please attach a photo of yourself ("selfie") holding up BOTH of the following:

  • A valid piece of government issued photo ID (no-health cards)
  • A piece of paper with the first 5 digits of your Coinsquare account ID (or the word Coinsquare) and today's date written on it

*Please note that your photo must include all of the elements listed above before we are able to reset your 2FA
